27 weeks

Big milestone this week - THIRD TRIMESTER! We are now only 3 months away! We tried an experiment this week. We held a flashlight to my belly to see what Baby Bird would do. He/she kicked and moved away! I'm sure we were interrupting a baby nap and possibly even a lovely dream. Baby Bird has enough brain activity at this stage that specialists speculate that he/she could be dreaming when he/she sleeps! Since we figured we were already being annoying parents to our child, Brian figured he's hold his iPhone up to the belly and play some music. He first played some rap which must have bored Baby Bird (much like his/her mommy) because there was absolutely no reaction. As soon as Brian played Over the Rainbow by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole, Baby Bird was kicking and squirming and even kicked the iPhone three times. We took that as a sign that he/she liked it and was dancing around haha.

Sleep used to be one of my all time favorite activities! Like for real. We recently got reconnected with some long time family friends in CA and the mom told me that when she taught my preschool class and asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said a pillow. I used to wait for my parents to leave after tucking me in and I would get up, change into my clothes for the next day, make my bed, and sleep on top of the covers because that meant that I could sleep an extra 10 mins the following morning because I was already ready for school! Sleep is becoming less and less my favorite. Falling asleep is easy. I have fallen asleep in every movie we have watched the past 6 months. Staying asleep is the hard part. My preggo friend, Katie, tweeted it perfectly last night: "So. Sleeping at 7 months pregnant is like being a fish out of water #floppy". Basically, I am surrounded by every pillow we have in our house and I flop from one side to the other. I also wake up with sore hips and back a couple times a night to pee. I hear it's only going to get worse. It's a good thing that God has designed it this way to prepare us for the midnight feedings, because otherwise it would be even harder to wake up and feed the baby. But considering I don't think I've slept a whole night since being pregnant, it might not be so bad (yes, I'm naive). All this to say that the other night I couldn't fall back asleep after hitting up the potty, and I laid there feeling baby wiggle. It's one of my favorite things because it's nice and quiet and baby and I get to hang out and have some special time bonding and praying. This night, Baby Bird had the hiccups! It was the first time I have felt them and it was so funny! Maybe this is a result of all the spicy foods I've been eating. I usually have quite the "northern white girl palate", but since getting pregnant, I can't have things spicy enough! It's totally worth the heartburn that comes after. Lately, we've been on a spicy asian soup kick. Yummy! And I also can't get enough Clementine oranges and orange juice. Well, pretty much any fresh fruit. We have a bowl in our fridge full of pineapple and berries so I can snack on them when I get a craving.

Baby Bird has also been squirming like crazy. I took a couple videos that kind of show him/her kicking from the outside. This is nothing compared to what we've seen, but he/she seems to get camera shy and stops when I pull out my iPhone.
 (L) Pregnancy Brain: I turned on the wrong stovetop burner when making eggs and fried the bag of cheese instead. (R) I've been enjoying my quiet mornings of coffee (decaf) and reading my Bible. Soon my mornings wont be quite so cozy and still.
(L) I finally have started sewing things for the baby! This weeks job, yellow zig-zag curtains while watching a sermon from Mark Driscoll. (R) Brian and I got to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D with my sister-in-law and our niece and nephew. It was so fun and brought back a lot of childhood memories. We both got chocked up. Brian had stayed up all night for the all night of prayer at church and came straight to the movie. He was exhausted. I just have pregnancy hormones and the nostalgia was enough to make me tear up haha.
